Cairns Marlin Marina
In November 2011 Pacific Pontoon and Pier installed the new G Arm and a H Arm extension at Cairns Marlin Marina for Ports North Corporation, one month ahead of schedule.

The project involved the supply and installation of 44 new berths ranging in size from 15m to 22m, including multi-hull berths. All necessary piling works were conducted by Pacific Pontoon & Pier using one of PPP's piling barges.
27 semi-trailer loads were required to transport the marina, with all manufacturing works conducted off-site at Pacific Pontoon & Pier's factory.

Floating stock was loaded into the water downstream and pushed into place, with no disturbance to the fully operational marina.
PPP worked hard to complete the marina ahead of the looming wet season. However, the installation crew did experience some rain days that required the ancillary craft to be lifted out of the water as bilge pumps couldn’t keep up with the deluge!

The project included all fire services, access gates with security swipe passes, signage and 3 phase power pedestals with electrical head switchboard.

Pontoon at Buxton Completed
"Boating and fishing enthusiasts are now able to enjoy the waterways of the Burrum River at Buxton even more with the installation of a pontoon near the township’s boat ramp completed ahead of schedule.
Council's Division 2 Councillor and Deputy Mayor Tony Ricciardi said the proposal to construct the pontoon was previously requested by the Buxton community and local recreational boating public and placed on a Queensland Transport and Main Roads Department forward plan.
Cr. Ricciardi said he was pleased to see work on the project completed, with local and visiting boating and fishing enthusiasts already benefitting from the construction of the pontoon.
He said the floating pontoon and gangway near the boat ramp in Powers Street provides a secure point to moor vessels as well as making it easier for people to get in and out of boats without getting their feet wet and assisting with launching and landing in strong currents.
“The pontoon is beneficial to everyone looking to enjoy a day on the water, especially children, the elderly and those with a disability” Cr. Ricciardi said.
“People launching and removing their boats from the river can now moor their vessels at the pontoon and back their trailer into the water, easing congestion at the ramp during busy boating periods” he said. “I’ve already had lots of positive comments from people who are using and enjoying the pontoon”.
Council’s Health and Environmental spokesperson Cr. Mary Wilkinson said the floating pontoon is a 13 metre x 3.5 metre structure with a 21 metre gangway fixed to a nearby rock retaining wall.
Cr. Wilkinson said those who enjoyed a spot of fishing are permitted to cast and fish from the pontoon, although they are required to “give way” to boat owners."

Giru Public Access Pontoon - Qld
The Qld Department of Transport and Main Roads awarded Pacific Pontoon & Pier the contract for the design and construction of a public pontoon facility adjoining the local boat ramp in Giru, just south of Townsville.
Piling was conducted by the company’s newest piling rig, “Hammer”, on its maiden voyage. “Hammer” is a smaller and easily-transportable barge that was custom-built at Pacific Pontoon & Pier’s fabrication facility. It was specifically designed for smaller projects in remote areas, due to its low establishment costs.
The unique element of this project was that crocodiles had to be considered. Pontoon installations typically require water access, but the installation crew were able to avoid the local crocs at the site as PPP designed custom pile brackets to ensure that no one involved would not have to enter the water at any time.
Some minor civil work was conducted to reshape the bank to accommodate the 23 metre long gangway’s rise and fall.

Brisbane Flood Recovery Works
First the Floods, Then the Cyclone - What a Start to 2011
It has been a challenging start to 2011 for many Australians, particularly Queenslanders, with one extreme weather event after another. The devastating affects of the floods and cyclone in Queensland tragically resulted in lost lives, lost homes, and lost livelihoods.
As the survivors, battered and muddied (but not defeated), pick up the pieces of their lives, Pacific Pontoon & Pier (PPP) has been managing flood recovery and repair works along the Brisbane River.
With pontoons and boats coming to rest above river banks and atop boat sheds, this continues to be a demanding task.

PPP has participated in numerous meetings with Brisbane City Council, Maritime Safety Queensland and the Department of Environment and Resource Management  since the flood events to discuss the most effective solutions moving forward.

Flood mitigation strategies for repaired and replacement pontoons have been at the top of the list. Methodology and engineering concepts are still in discussion for future pontoon designs.

Marmong Point Marina, Port Macquarie NSW - Boardwalk Complete
For over 25 years Pacific Pontoon & Pier (PPP) have been designing and constructing heavy hardwood boardwalks and structures over water with expertise.
Large marina developments often include a public access boardwalk, and previous projects at Couran Cove, and Palazzo Versace, Qld are good examples of the scope of works involved.
Marmong Point Marina enlisted PPP to design and construct over 180m of timber boardwalk including revetment and earthworks, and this has recently been completed.
Previously PPP installed 155 berths as part of the Marmong Point marina development, bringing the total number of berths to 245 and making it one of the largest marinas in NSW.

Pacific Pontoon & Pier Customer: Tsunami Survivor and Hero
Pacific Pontoon & Pier customer Jimmy Black and eight mates* survived a 3m tsunami which ripped through Sumatra's Mentawai Islands late last year.
The Gold Coast men were on board the surf expedition vessel Midas, which collided with the nearby Freedom III, causing a fuel fire that quickly filled the boat with flames and smoke.
Jimmy jumped from the burning boat into the water and managed to climb into a tinnie as it was swept past, taking him deep into the jungle, before capsizing and him being swept out towards sea again.
Grabbing at numerous trees, Jimmy was finally able to clutch on to one right on the shoreline.
Jimmy then spotted the charter boat's chef struggling to stay above water and pulled him up the tree with him, only to have that tree then began to collapse.
Jimmy and the chef were swept inland once more on an incoming wave where he was able to grab onto another tree, saving both of their lives.
In a cruel coincidence of bad luck, Jimmy and wife Shannon's business Wild Earth was also robbed while he was away, after fighting for his life in Sumatra.
Pacific Pontoon & Pier's Managing Director and keen surfer, Bill Bourke, utilises the same surf travel company The Perfect Wave to explore various surf breaks around the world.
Being the humble hero Jimmy Black proved himself to be, Bill Bourke decided to arrange a custom surfboard to help to replace those Jimmy had lost.
The name of Jimmy's preferred shaper, Stuart, was obtained from Shannon, and the secret project was underway.

At handover of the pontoon, Bill was able to give his surprise gift to Jimmy (pictured (right) with Bill Bourke).

*Rob Marino, James Finucan, Jethro Jones, Kevin Fitzpatrick, Guy Margin, Daniel Scanlan, Gergory Gotlieb and Richard Hope were also survivors of the tsunami.

Port Of Airlie - The Whitsundays, Qld
The first stage of Queensland's largest new marina has opened at Port of Airlie, in The Whitsundays.
Meridien Marinas is developing one of the most significant man-made harbours in Queensland incorporating a 289 berth marina, designed by Pacific Pontoon & Pier (PPP). The Port of Airlie harbour will provide deepwater access and berthing in the heart of the Whitsundays cruising mecca.
The first stage of the marina includes 42 marina berths ranging in size from 12 to 24 metres, with the final stages incorporating larger berths up to 50m to be completed in the near future.
The marina has been designed with a higher freeboard to cater for the commercial vessels, popularly used to cruise the magnificent islands.
The berths are fitted with the highest grade electrical services, and are certain to impress with their aesthetics and ease of use.
37 semi trailer loads were used to transport the first stage of the marina and a 200 tonne crane was needed to launch the marina modules into the harbour.
Port of Airlie's marina harbour and surrounding land has been built entirely on reclaimed land from below the high watermark.
Meridien imported 1.9km of marine grade sheet piles from Belgium to aid in isolating the site from the ocean and allow excavation of mud and solid material. The process resulted in the turnover of over 1 million cubic metres of material, which allowed Meridien to excavate 21 metres below sea level.
The marina access channel will exhibit a minimum of 3 metres draught at the lowest astronomical tide, allowing the largest superyachts to access the marina and provide deepwater berthing within the harbour. As the new gateway to the 74 Whitsunday Islands, Port of Airlie will attract superyachts from around the world.
The Port of Airlie marina will incorporate 289 berths ranging in size from 12m – 50m with an array of state-of-the-art facilities and services available. The completion of the first stage of the marina will coincide with the opening of The Boathouse Apartments by the end of this year.
On completion, Port of Airlie will encompass fifteen of the best beachfront homes in Australia, a mix of designer waterfront apartments, a luxury international resort, retail dining and fashion precinct, a world class marina, public harbourside boardwalk, Fantasea Adventure Cruising's fully integrated ferry, cruise and bus terminal and a 240 metre all-tide beach.
Rob Donaldson, Chief Operations Officer for PPP said, “It's been exciting and challenging working with the Meridien team to create a world standard marina.”

Marmong Point Marina - NSW
Pacific Pontoon & Pier has recently completed a 155 berth marina extension development at Marmong Point, bringing the total number of berths at Marmong Point Marina to 245 and making it one of the largest marinas in NSW. Comprising of berths to suit vessels ranging between 10m and 18m in length, the new marina totals just over half a kilometre of additional mooring facility, which involved the replacement of 70 existing pens, and construction of an additional 85 pens. The project required 47 semi-trailer loads to deliver it to location for assembly.
Utilising our in-house design team and engineers, PPP was able to increase the yield of the original marina tender design, effectively creating a more efficient and profitable marina development for Marmong Point.
The development also includes construction of a 250m public foreshore boardwalk along the eastern shore of Marmong Cove.
Early in 2011 Marmong Marina management will move forward with their 2nd Stage Development which includes a 124 seat restaurant, new amenities, chandlery and a 110 boat dry storage facility.
Marmong Point is located on beautiful Lake Macquarie, Australia's largest coastal saltwater lake, with a fully equipped service marina.
Just south of the busy harbour of Newcastle and only 60 nautical miles north of Sydney Harbour Heads, Marmong Point Marina is a great port for boaties, and an ideal alternative to Sydney and Port Stephens marinas.
