The Qld Department of Transport and Main Roads awarded Pacific Pontoon & Pier the contract for the Design & Construction of a public pontoon facility in the beautiful town of Buxton, just north of Hervey Bay.
The design criteria was to maintain conforming gradients for public access walkways throughout all tide levels. To achieve this, a connecting transition ramp (which had an additional pontoon float to support it) was required.
The gangway length was 23 metres, weighing in at close to 2 tonnes. The decking was a composite fibreglass mesh, chosen to lighten the structure which reduced the overall weight by half a tonne.
Self-contained solar bollards were installed for pontoon lighting. Flood restraint cables were also included.
The entire on-site installation was completed within 4 days.
